Barcelona Agree Personal Terms with Nico Williams on Six-Year Deal

Barcelona Agree Personal Terms with Nico Williams on Six-Year Deal

According to multiple reports, including transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Barcelona have reached a full agreement with Spanish winger Nico Williams on personal terms. The deal, reportedly running through June 2031, would see the Athletic Club star earn a net salary of €7–8 million per season.

While an agreement with Athletic Club is still pending, this breakthrough signals Barcelona’s clear intent to bring the 21-year-old to Camp Nou—potentially as their marquee signing of the summer.

Nico Says Yes to Barça

Convincing the player was always going to be the trickiest part. But Nico Williams has shown he’s fully on board. His agent has reportedly been in frequent talks with the Barcelona board since last Friday, and the winger has made it clear: he wants to wear the Blaugrana shirt.

Perhaps most notably, Williams has displayed rare humility and ambition—agreeing to a salary lower than what was offered by his current club. Athletic had tabled a renewal worth €10 million net per year, but Nico is reportedly willing to accept €2–3 million less annually just to facilitate the move to Barcelona.

More Than Just Money

In an era where financial gain often trumps sporting dreams, Williams’ gesture has impressed Barcelona’s leadership. Club sources say the player is even open to reducing his wage further if needed to meet La Liga’s Financial Fair Play rules.

He’s also willing to urge Athletic to negotiate a transfer fee—despite the Basque club’s strict policy of refusing to negotiate and only selling players if their release clauses are paid. Williams’ buyout clause is set at around €62 million.

Still, Barcelona president Joan Laporta may have already dropped a hint. “We’re on the verge of making an imminent signing,” he told the club Senate earlier this week. “Surely, it will be a player who excites us a lot.”

All signs point to that player being Nico.

What’s Next?

Barcelona now face the challenge of convincing Athletic Club, a notoriously firm club when it comes to transfer policies. Though fresh talks have taken place, triggering the release clause may be the fastest—and perhaps only—way to close the deal.

Should it happen, Williams would join a growing list of young talents defining the next era at Camp Nou. His pace, work ethic, and creativity could make him a vital part of Barça’s future — and his willingness to sacrifice for the shirt might already have won over fans.
