UK Boxing History in the Making: Fury and Joshua Agree to Fight

British boxing fans, rejoice — the long-anticipated clash between Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua may finally be on the horizon.

Multiple sources, including GB News, have confirmed that Fury and Joshua have reached a verbal agreement to face each other in what would be one of the biggest all-British bouts in modern boxing history. The two former heavyweight champions have agreed in principle, and discussions are now underway to finalize financial details before an official announcement is made.

A Battle Years in the Making

Fury, who announced his retirement earlier this year following a second defeat to Oleksandr Usyk, is reportedly reversing course and preparing for a high-profile return to the ring. Training footage and recent social media posts from Fury — including a relaxed vacation image from a luxury resort in Scotland — suggest the “Gypsy King” is both recharging and refocusing for the battle ahead.

Joshua, meanwhile, has not fought since his loss to Daniel Dubois in September 2024. With both fighters now free from title obligations and in similar phases of their careers, the matchup finally feels attainable.

Wembley Stadium to Host the Showdown

Unlike many recent marquee fights that have taken place in Saudi Arabia, this bout is set to happen on home turf. Both Fury and Joshua are reportedly insisting on fighting at Wembley Stadium, a decision that is likely to be welcomed by British fans eager to witness the bout in person.

If the remaining terms are finalized soon, the fight could happen before the end of 2025.

Hearn Confirms Optimism

Eddie Hearn, Joshua’s longtime promoter, has confirmed that the fight is closer than ever. Speaking recently, Hearn stated, “Now, both guys are in a similar position. They’re coming off losses and want to prove themselves. The belts aren’t always necessary — this would be a fight that captures the imagination regardless.”

He added that with fewer political roadblocks and more shared motivation, making the fight “could be easy.”

Stakes Are High — And So Are the Payouts

While Fury earned an estimated £67.3 million from his last bout against Usyk, insiders suggest a showdown with Joshua could surpass even that figure. Financial negotiations remain the final hurdle, with both fighters keen to maximize earnings.

What Comes Next?

An official announcement is expected soon, pending final agreement on terms. A fight between Fury and Joshua would not only satisfy years of fan speculation and demand, but also inject fresh energy into the heavyweight division — one that has recently been dominated by Usyk.
