Joey Logano and Chipper Jones’ Feud Shocks NASCAR and MLB Fans

It’s not every day that a NASCAR champion and a baseball Hall of Famer clash on social media—but that’s exactly what unfolded after the Jack Link’s 500 at Talladega. In a spat that quickly snowballed into a cross-sport feud, Joey Logano and Chipper Jones exchanged pointed words, giving racing and baseball fans alike something unexpected to talk about.

Tempers Flare After Talladega

Following a tense race on April 27 at Talladega Superspeedway, Joey Logano—Penske’s three-time Cup Series champion—unleashed a furious team radio rant when teammate Austin Cindric allowed Bubba Wallace to take the Stage 2 win.

“Way to go, Austin,” Logano fumed. “Way to go you dumb f***. What a stupid s***. Gave a Toyota the stage win. Nice job. What the f***.”

The harsh comments were captured on the race broadcast and quickly went viral—especially after Cindric recovered to win the race.

Enter Chipper Jones

While Cindric seemed unbothered, former Atlanta Braves icon Chipper Jones wasn’t as forgiving. Taking to X (formerly Twitter), Jones slammed Logano’s behavior, calling out what he perceived as selfishness and poor sportsmanship:

“Remember that one of yours MFed u on national TV when you were doing everything to keep from wrecking him… Some people are ‘hooray for our team as long as I’m the star.’”

He even poked fun at Logano’s post-race disqualification, posting gleefully, “My day just keeps getting better!”

Logano Fires Back

Logano didn’t let the comments slide. Speaking on SiriusXM NASCAR Radio, the 34-year-old champion addressed the controversy head-on:

“Chipper Jones… he’s a good baseball player, sure, but he’s not a race car driver. He wasn’t in the room when we made the plan for how to run that race.”

Logano expressed surprise that someone with pro sports experience would jump to conclusions without knowing the strategy behind superspeedway racing.

“You’d think he’d get it—how there’s more to it than what the cameras show. Maybe he was just bored. I don’t know. I tell you—I don’t care.”

Feud Cooling Down?

Despite the war of words, cooler heads may be prevailing. After Logano’s win in Texas the following weekend, Jones seemed to extend an olive branch:

“Congratulations to @joeylogano. A HOF driver with a masterful win… This is what NASCAR fans expect from you.”

It’s unclear if the truce is permanent—but for a brief moment, two legends from entirely different sports found themselves locked in a very public, very unexpected rivalry.
