Just days before UFC 315 hits Montreal, a cryptic and alarming message from Alex Pereira’s X (formerly Twitter) account sparked chaos in the MMA world. The now-deleted tweet hinted at a rift with the UFC and even suggested the former light heavyweight champ was contemplating retirement.

“I’ve already had thoughts of not fighting anymore,” the post read, “and after what was just relayed to me, this may be the start.”

That sentence alone had fans, pundits, and fellow fighters scrambling to understand what had happened between one of the UFC’s most bankable stars and the promotion.

The Plot Twist: “I Was Hacked”

But just as speculation hit a fever pitch, Pereira took to social media with a video message to clarify the situation—and calm the storm.

“I’ve received a ton of messages from everyone who saw a post on my Twitter,” Pereira said in a translated statement. “I didn’t even know about it. I was hacked. It’s been a while since I posted anything… I have a great relationship with the UFC.”

The message was short, sincere, and unequivocal. Pereira insists he had nothing to do with the alarming tweet and reaffirmed his commitment to the promotion that helped catapult him to global stardom.

🚨 Alex Pereira says his X account has been HACKED and his relationship with the UFC is great

A Timeline of Silence

Fans with a close eye on Pereira’s social activity noted something odd: his last post on X was on April 24, and the one before that on April 11. His digital quietness—and the fact the retirement post stayed up for over two hours—only fueled confusion.

But with Pereira’s personal video and no official comment yet from the UFC, the narrative is shifting back toward damage control rather than actual discontent.

From Champion to Contender Again

Pereira’s star status was cemented in 2024 after headlining three pay-per-view cards, including the historic UFC 300. He stepped up for UFC 303 when Conor McGregor was ruled out and later defended again at UFC 307.

But his reign ended in March 2025 when he lost a tightly contested decision to Magomed Ankalaev at UFC 313. It was a setback, but not a fall from grace. Despite the loss, Pereira remains one of the most dangerous and respected fighters in the UFC’s roster.

No Signs of a Rematch… Yet

The buzz around a rematch between Ankalaev and Pereira has been ongoing, with both exchanging words online. But with no bout announced and now a hacking incident thrown into the mix, it’s unclear whether that rematch will materialize anytime soon.

Whether it does or not, one thing is clear—Pereira isn’t going anywhere. At least, not on his own terms, and not because of a rogue tweet.

The Bottom Line

The hacking episode serves as a reminder of how quickly misinformation can spread in the digital age—especially in a sport as volatile as MMA. For now, Alex Pereira remains very much an active fighter, and fans can breathe easy knowing there’s no rift with the UFC brass.

The only thing left to wonder? Who he’ll step into the Octagon against next.
