Minnesota Timberwolves star Anthony Edwards has been fined $50,000 by the NBA for a vulgar and obscene gesture aimed at a fan during Saturday’s Game 1 win over the Los Angeles Lakers.

Late in the third quarter, Edwards was seen exchanging words with a courtside heckler while sitting on the scorer’s table. Just before rejoining the game, he responded with a crotch grab and an explicit remark—reportedly yelling, “My d**k bigger than yours.”

League Cracks Down, But Stops Short of Suspension

While the NBA acknowledged the inappropriate behavior, it stopped short of suspending Anthony Edwards. The fine was officially announced Tuesday, just hours before Game 2 in Los Angeles.

Not His First Offense This Season

This is Edwards’ second major fine of the season. In March, he was docked $35,000 for delaying his exit after being ejected in a matchup—also against the Lakers. That incident added to his total of 16 technical fouls, leading to an automatic one-game suspension.

So far this season, Edwards has racked up a whopping $320,000 in fines for a mix of on-court outbursts, foul language, and other conduct issues.

Strong Playoff Start Overshadowed

Despite the controversy, Edwards was a force on the court in Game 1. He posted 22 points, nine assists, and eight rebounds in a dominant 117-95 Timberwolves victory that put the Lakers on their heels in the first-round series.

Star Numbers, But Team Struggles

Now in his fourth NBA season, the 23-year-old has solidified his status as one of the league’s brightest young stars. He boosted his scoring average to 27.6 points per game this year while improving his shooting percentages. However, Minnesota regressed in the standings, falling to sixth in the Western Conference and forcing a tough first-round matchup on the road.

All Eyes on Game 2

Edwards is cleared to play and will suit up for Game 2 on Tuesday night as the Timberwolves try to take a commanding 2-0 lead over the third-seeded Lakers.
