Toto Wolff’s Anger At Valtteri Bottas For Losing Pole At The Mexican Gp: “It’s A Day To Forget”

Mercedes left with little and nothing to rescue from the Mexican Grand Prix, and Toto Wolff expressed his annoyance at what happened to Bottas on the track.

The Mexican Grand Prix turned into a real Red Bull party with Checo Pérez and Max Verstappen. In Mercedes, they cannot say the same, since Valtteri Bottas lost the pole position from the start and Toto Wolff left angry and what follows from the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez.

What happened in the race is completely negative for the German team, as they only have a one-point advantage in the constructors’ championship. For his part, Lewis Hamilton remains behind Verstappen in the fight for the drivers’ championship with only 4 races to go.

This frustrates the aspirations of Toto Wolff and company, but the manager was particularly disappointed by what was done with Bottas. The Finnish driver lost position and then fell to 18th place due to a brush with Daniel Ricciardo at the start.

That shouldn’t have happened. You could see that one lap we have the pace in the car, or at least to take the fastest lap from Max. Valtteri’s spin in the first corner was very painful. Overall, for us, it was a day to forget, “said Wolff.

As if that were not enough, in the first entry of Bottas to the pits, some complications caused the stop to last 20 seconds and crushed any aspiration to come back.

Toto Wolff’s congratulations to Red Bull

Despite the bad news and the result to the contrary, Toto Wolff acknowledged what his rivals had done. Although it is true that he has been in a coming and going of statements with Christian Horner for a few weeks, the Mercedes director pointed out that both Max and Checo ran better than the rest.

Well, Red Bull is to be congratulated because their pace was on another level. I don’t think we could have won the race even staying ahead in the first corner, because they could have turned the situation around at the pit stops.”

We had two cars in front, and it seemed to open the door for Max to get in on the outside and even the spin afterward and the total loss of points with Valtteri’s car, when it could have been third or fourth, is annoying.
