Miami Dolphins Ink Former Texas QB Quinn Ewers to Four-Year Contract

The Miami Dolphins have officially welcomed former Texas Longhorns quarterback Quinn Ewers to the NFL, signing the rookie to a four-year contract ahead of the 2025 season.

Selected 231st overall in the seventh round of the draft, Ewers became the first of Miami’s rookies to ink a deal. He’ll join Tua Tagovailoa and new addition Zach Wilson in the quarterback room as rookie minicamp kicks off this weekend.

Familiar System, Fresh Opportunity

Though a Day 3 pick, Ewers is no stranger to the Dolphins’ offensive approach. His college coach, Steve Sarkisian, borrowed concepts from Mike McDaniel’s system—including the pre-snap motion that has become a Miami staple. That background gives Ewers a head start as he transitions into the pros.

Ewers has already expressed enthusiasm about working with McDaniel, saying,

“He’s got this energy that rubs off on everyone. I can’t wait to dive into his system and see it from the inside.”

Upside with a Few Wrinkles

While Ewers isn’t expected to compete with Tagovailoa right away, he brings tools worth developing. He’s got a strong arm, excellent anticipation, and an ability to hit tight windows. His main area for growth? Holding the ball too long, which led to avoidable sacks in college.

Coach McDaniel, who has a proven track record with quarterbacks, will aim to sharpen Ewers’ decision-making and speed up his internal clock.

In his final season at Texas, Ewers passed for 3,472 yards, 31 touchdowns, and 12 interceptions, showing clear promise despite some inconsistencies.
